Croatia are one of the best-performing national teams in the FIFA World Cups over the last few editions. Under the captaincy of Luka Modrić, Croatia have enjoyed one of the best ever phases in their history.

They made a historic run all the way to the finals in 2018 in Russia, which was their best ever finish in the world’s biggest sporting event. They defeated the likes of Argentina and England on their way to the final, where they suffered a heartbreaking 4-2 loss against France.

The former Real Madrid maestro played a key role in Croatia’s third-place finish at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. His standout moment was helping secure Croatia’s historic quarterfinal win over Brazil. He contributed with technical ability, sharp game reading, and quality decision-making. Still, Luka Modrić has shown he can score when given the chance. This article will review all of Luka Modrić’s FIFA World Cup goals.

Luka Modrić: All World Cup Goals

2018 FIFA World Cup – Russia

Goal 1: Croatia 2-0 Nigeria

Croatia faced Nigeria in their opening game of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Croatia led in the 32nd minute after Nigeria’s Peter Etebo scored an own goal. The match was cagey and intense as Nigeria chased the game. In the second half, Mario Mandžukić was fouled in the box by defender William Troost, earning Croatia a penalty. Luka Modrić calmly converted against goalkeeper Francis Uzoho.

Goal 2: Argentina 0-3 Croatia

Luka Modić’s second-ever FIFA World Cup goal came against Argentina in Croatia’s second game of the campaign. Argentina had to win against Croatia as they drew 1-1 against Iceland in their opening game.

However, despite being the underdogs, Croatia handed an embarrassing 3-0 loss to La Albiceleste. Luka Modric feinted a shot to get the better of Nicolás Otamendi and unleashed a thunderous striker against Wilfredo Caballero to score the second goal of the game at the 80th-minute mark.
