The Manchester United vs Hull City match will take place on August 22.
Manchester United are scheduled to open their Premier League 2026-27 campaign with a fixture against Hull City at MKM Stadium on Saturday. Ahead of his side’s league opener, head coach Michael Carrick provided crucial injury updates for players such as Benjamin Sesko and Mason Mount.
Both players were doubts entering the weekend due to injury issues. However, the Manchester United head coach provided positive updates for the players, although some players have been definitively ruled out of the upcoming clash.
Sesko was United’s top scorer last season, scoring 12 goals across all competitions. The Slovenian striker suffered a shin injury following a match against Liverpool in May. He did not take part in United’s pre-season campaign, but Carrick revealed that the forward is trying hard to make it to the matchday squad for the upcoming match.
“Ben’s back training, so that’s, again, another positive,” Carrick said in the pre-match press conference. “Looking forward to having him back around the group and getting him some minutes as well.”
Mason Mount had an injury scare during United’s pre-season friendly against Paris Saint-Germain. As a result, the 27-year-old midfielder is being carefully managed by Carrick ahead of the Premier League opener.
“(We’re) managing Mason a little bit, but he’s very close, so it’s touch and go for the weekend, really, if not, going into next week,” Carrick said.

Backup goalkeeper Karl Darlow, who joined from Leeds United, will not be a part of United’s matchday squad. The goalkeeper missed the pre-season campaign but has returned to training and is not yet fully match-fit.
“Yeah, Karl’s trained this week,” Carrick said. “He’s back training, so he’s in good shape.”
Defender Matthijs de Ligt, who has not played since suffering a back injury in November, has also returned to training, but the Dutch centre-back is far from 100% match fitness.
“Matta’s obviously been out for a long period of time, but he’s training and it’s great to have him back,” Carrick said. “He won’t be involved, but he’s in good shape and moving in a good direction, so that’s a good bonus for us really, at this stage, to have him back.”
Will Benjamin Sesko play vs Hull City?
