Anchored at the threshold of Europe’s oldest planned industrial estate at Trafford Park, the Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester, United Kingdom, gears up to host Matchweek 8 of the Premier League. Home team Manchester United and Bournemouth lock horns in what is set to be a thrilling clash.
It has been a tough start to the season for the Red Devils as Michael Carrick’s side are winless in their last seven games. Their last Premier League win came against Ipswich in late August. They recently lost to Atletico Madrid and Como in the UEFA Champions League.
This is one of their worst starts since 1986-87, with only one win in seven Premier League appearances. They have failed to keep even a single clean sheet so far in the top tier. They are ranked 13th in the points table with seven points.
Bournemouth may have suffered domestically, but they are jointly atop the Europa League points table with three out of three wins. They are coming off a 2-0 win over Sunderland in the last Premier League game after Evanilson and Tavernier found their name in the scoresheet.
The Cherries are on a three-match streak of wins and clean sheets. In their last six appearances with the Red Devils, Bournemouth have never been defeated. The last three games between these sides ended in a draw.
It will be an interesting game, as Marco Rose would be keen to extend his winning streak.
Players to Watch
Diogo Dalot (Manchester United)
The Portuguese full-back from Braga has played for Porto before making a move to Manchester United for three years. After a short stint with AC Milan, he returned back to Old Trafford and has won the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup with United.
He was one of the best players in the match against Leeds. After a disappointing defeat against Como, the onus will be on senior players like Dalot to step up and lead the team from the back. He will be up against the fast-paced Brazilian winger Rayan on the flanks.
Lewis Cook (Bournemouth)
The North Yorkshire-born midfielder has donned the jersey of Leeds United before committing his future to the Cherries for over a decade now. Cook has made over 250 appearances for the Cherries and functions as the central pivot orchestrating transitions and breaking up counter-attacks.
He will be up against a relatively young midfield of Manchester United, led by two 22-year-old players, Andrey Santos and Carlos Baleba. He will be tasked with the responsibility of winning those pocket-sized battles in the centre of the park and getting the better of the Red Devils.
