Mikel Oyarzabal has scored five goals for Spain in the ongoing FIFA World Cup.

European champions Spain are currently squaring off against France in the semifinal of the FIFA World Cup 2026 at the Dallas Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

While the game was expected to start with Didier Deschamps’ men taking an aggressive lead in the initial few minutes. Something exactly opposite happened.

Although Ousmane Dembele and Michael Olise created a few promising runs to the final third, it was Mikel Oyarzabal who broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute, making sure Mike Maignan does not keep a clean sheet against La Roja in the high-stakes clash.

The penalty was awarded to Spaon after Lucas Digne kicked Lamine Yamal in the penalty area. The French fullback was trying to pass the ball into midfield; however, after controlling it with his chest, Yamal closed in on him and tried to dispossess the Aston Villa defender.

And instead of kicking the ball, Digne ended up throwing a kick at the 19-year-old. The referee quickly decided that it was a penalty, and La Roja’s top scorer in the ongoing FIFA World Cup campaign, Mikel Ozyarbal, stepped up to take the kick from the spot.

The Real Sociedad talisman fired the ball in the top-right corner, unreachable to Mike Maignan, who made a huge dive to make the save.

Meanwhile, Lamine Yamal has become the third-youngest player on record to win a penalty in a World Cup game, after Michael Owen in 1998 and Dmitri Sychev in 2002.

However, soon after the penalty was scored, the match went into the first hydration break, which would surely have given the European champions a boost of confidence for the remainder of the game at the Dallas Stadium.
