Rooney and Ibrahimovic shine in MLS over the weekend

The Englishman scored for the first time in America while the Swede registered his maiden hat-trick.
The 22nd gameweek of Major League Soccer had a lot to offer for the masses with the former Manchester United duo of Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic ending up on the score-sheet for their respective teams. The former Swedish international moved to LA Galaxy in January this year, while the Englishman moved base in this window itself.
Rooney, who captained DC United, has played just four games wearing the #9 jersey whilst wearing the armband as well. He led by example and gave the club from the American capital the lead from a shot that went underneath former teammate Tim Howard.

He nearly scored his second of the night, but Howard was on point that time around, deflecting the ball onto the far post.

"Delighted to score my first goal for DC United last night and more importantly a big three points at Audi Field," Rooney wrote on Twitter, "and a broken nose and five stitches." The game ended 2-0 to the capital outfit, who are struggling in 21st position, but have at least three games in hand.

Elsewhere, Ibrahimovic took his tally of MLS goals to 15 from 17 games with his first hat-trick in the American league. Playing against Orlando City, he assisted the team's first goal and scored the other three. The first two came through headers and the last one, the eventual winner of the game was a stunning shot into the left corner of the goal.
