Joel Sunday scored a blinder in the 32nd minutes to ensure victory for the Men in Orange....
Tollygunge Agrsgami beat Mohun Bagan 1-0 in their rematch in the Calcutta Football League played at the Mohun Bagan Ground yesterday. The Tollygunge forward scored the goal form Vashum’s cross in the 32nd minute. Mohun Bagan will be upset as they couldn’t capitalize on four or five easy chances in the game. Darryl Duffy, Daniel Bidemi and Azharuddin Mullick failed to find their shooting boots on the day. The Mohun Bagan team already knew that, East Bengal have sealed the league for the seventh time on t trot as they had beaten Mohammedan Sporting Club by a solitary goal before Bagan’s match started. Tollygunge had the upper hand throughout the match playing a lot of small passes in the midfield which irritated Bagan’s young team as they were already without their key members in the likes of Prabir Das, Sanjay Balmuchu and Raju Gaikwad who were busy on Indian Super League duty. In the absence of these players senior pros like Bidemi and Duffy had to take the extra work load but they failed to do so. Tollygunge on the other hand were in for an all-out attack with Vashum, Joel Sunday and Liberian Alfred Jaryan. They penetrated the Bagan defense frequently and the Mariners were lucky not to concede more goals. After the game Tollygunge Agragami coach Ranjan Chowdhury said, “I had told my players that it was a must win game for us as we had to avoid relegation and my players kept their words.” Mohun Bagan coach Shankarlal Chakraborty stated, “We had only participated in the tournament to unearth some new talent and we were successful in doing that. I am happy with my players and would want to win the last match against Mohammedan Sporting to end the league on a high." Photo - Ujjal Sarkhel ( THIF MEDIA )Report by Khel Now Correspondent Rony.
