Mohun Bagan to have road named after them in Jalpaiguri
The inauguration is scheduled to happen on February 11.
In a historic setting, on January 6th, 2024, the Executive Committee of Mohun Bagan Athletic Club convened for its 12th meeting at the Club Tent.
Among the significant announcements made during the meeting, the club revealed plans for its 134th Annual Athletic Meet scheduled for January 20th and 21st at the Mohun Bagan ground, a testament to the enduring spirit of sportsmanship and competition that the club has embodied since its foundation in 1889.
One of the club’s major initiatives involves the expansion of its influence beyond the realm of sports. Notably, efforts are underway to name roads in every district of West Bengal after Mohun Bagan, the national club, with the third road in Jalpaiguri set to be named ‘Mohun Bagan Avenue.’
Originally planned for inauguration on January 21st, the ceremony has been rescheduled to February 11th due to the simultaneous occurrence of the 134th Annual Athletic Meet. The club expressed gratitude to Jalpaiguri Municipality’s Chairperson, Smt. Papia Pal, and Vice-Chairperson, Shri. Saikat Chatterjee, for their support in this endeavour.
In addition to its athletic pursuits, Mohun Bagan is actively participating in the Calcutta Hockey League 2024 1st Division Group A, showcasing the club’s commitment to diverse sporting disciplines. The formation of a new ‘Museum Committee’ under the leadership of Shri Uttam Kr. Saha as Chairman signals the club’s dedication to preserving and celebrating its rich history.
Looking forward, the club announced that its Annual General Meeting is scheduled for February 17th, 2024, providing an opportunity for members and stakeholders to gather, reflect, and contribute to the club’s vision for the future.
As the Mohun Bagan Athletic Club embraces its 134th year, the blend of tradition and growth remains at the forefront of its mission. With a bustling calendar of events, from athletic meets to hockey leagues and community-centric initiatives, the club continues to stand as a symbol of pride for its members and fans alike, fostering a legacy that transcends time.
