The midfielder was taken off due to injury.

Xabi Alonso provided details on Moises Caicedo, who went off hurt during Chelsea’s 4-3 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion.

Moises Caicedo returned to play after suffering a knock in training that kept him out of the first league game against Fulham and the Carabao Cup win over Luton Town in midweek.

Caicedo made his first appearance of the season against his former team on Sunday. But he only played 14 minutes after he substituted Pedro Neto in the second half at Stamford Bridge.

Xabi Alonso expects Moises Caicedo’s injury isn’t serious

Alonso was unaware of the severity of the 24-year-old’s latest setback. The midfielder was obviously distressed as he exited the pitch, replaced by Valentin Barco, another former Seagull player.

“Hopefully it wasn’t new, and hopefully it wasn’t more than last time,” Alonso said of Caicedo. ”He was cautious to stop and say that he wasn’t feeling the best. We will assess it during the week.”

Chelsea strangely deployed natural full-back Malo Gusto in the midfield room to join Romeo Lavia. Meanwhile, skipper Reece James came off the bench to play in centre-field alongside Caicedo when Brighton took the lead in the second half.

Enzo Fernandez was the only conspicuous exclusion from the matchday squad. He was left out once more due to reports of a possible exit before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

The Argentine was left out of the team for the match against Luton Town. He did not appear in west London on Sunday.

However, Alonso will be sweating on Moises Caicedo’s injury update. The midfielder will undergo scans that will confirm the extent of his injury. The Blues will next face the Gunners on the weekend.

Which injury did Moises Caicedo suffer?

He appeared to have picked up a knock against Brighton.

When is the Blues’ next game?

It’s on Sunday 6th September against Arsenal.
