The Brazilian has already retired from the national team.

Brazilian ace Neymar da Silva avoided making a definitive comment about his football future, amid rising rumours that he may retire when his Santos deal ends at the end of this year. Meanwhile, his father and agent claimed that his son might return to international football.

Neymar’s father: “I can’t guarantee that he’s 100% done with the Seleção. Maybe he can come back”.

Neymar replies: “It’s not my dad playing!”

Neymar makes it clear regarding his retirement

When asked about his future during a charity auction he sponsored in Sao Paulo, the 34-year-old replied:

“I’m not thinking about retirement.”

“I’m under contract at Santos until December, I want to do my best for the club. After that, I will consider my options. Stay, leave, retire, keep playing… I don’t know! There’s still time until December. We’ll see.”

The conundrum comes only weeks after Neymar’s international career came to an end as Brazil lost to Norway in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup. He broke down in tears after scoring a late penalty that failed to reduce the gap.

There are concerns about his ability to continue following a series of injuries that have clearly depleted his physical capacity in recent years.

Off the pitch, Neymar faces harsh criticism for his lifestyle. His recent presence at a poker tournament when his Santos colleagues were playing a Copa Sudamericana match in Venezuela provoked outrage among Brazilian fans and journalists.

A defining test will be administered next week. Santos will meet Ecuadorian team Macara in the Copa Sudamericana’s final 16, a match that might determine Neymar’s future: remain, go, or retire for good.
