Neymar subbed off with injury during Santos vs Palmeiras Copa do Brasil 2026 match

The veteran’s injury nightmare continues.
Neymar was forced off at half-time with a suspected thigh injury during Santos FC’s goalless draw against Palmeiras in the Copa do Brasil quarter-final second leg on Wednesday, September 2. The veteran forward started for the hosts during the last-eight fixture at Vila Belmiro, but went down in pain in the final minutes of the first half.
The 34-year-old was a target for fouls right from kick-off. He went down after an early challenge, leading to a confrontation between the two sets of players. Despite the Palmeiras player being booked, the challenges continued. Neymar reportedly felt a sharp pain in his thigh during the closing stages of the first half.
Reports from Brazil claimed that Neymar had difficulty moving towards the end of the half, appearing to favour his left leg. The forward asked the Santos head coach to be substituted at half-time and was replaced at the break by Rony.
The match ended in a goalless draw. However, Palmeiras progressed to the semi-final, having sealed a 3-0 victory in the first leg.

Neymar to undergo tests for injury

After the match, Neymar revealed that he felt pain in his thigh and will undergo tests to see the extent of the injury.
“Unfortunately, I felt some discomfort in my thigh,” the player wrote on Instagram. “I’ll have some tests done and I hope it’s nothing serious! We move forward with our heads held high and our focus on the process.”
Santos head coach Cuca revealed after the match that the Peixe had lost three players to injury during the game against Palmeiras. Along with Neymar, winger Álvaro Barreal and defender Lucas Veríssimo also left the game with injury problems.
“We’ve lost Neymar, we’ve lost Barreal, we’ve lost Lucas, and we have to pull together as a team now,” Cuca said. “Let’s hope the injuries aren’t serious and that they can return as soon as possible.”
Santos will face Internacional in a Campeonato Brasileiro Série A match on September 6.
