Who is Nicolo Tresoldi? Club Brugge striker attracting interest from European giants

Tresoldi recently scored a hat-trick for Brugge.

Club Brugge defeated Inter Milan 4-3 in the UEFA Champions League 2026-27 league phase on Tuesday, powered by a superb hat-trick from Nicolo Tresoldi, who created history at San Siro.

As Italy and Germany vie for his loyalty on the international scene, the 22-year-old attacker further solidified his rising reputation with his recent performances.

Interestingly, as Tresoldi had always supported AC Milan, the Nerazzurri’s local rivals, his hat-trick against Inter was especially memorable. The only player to previously score a Champions League hat-trick against Inter at San Siro was Gareth Bale.

“It was incredible, indescribable,” Tresoldi told Sky Sport Italia after the match. “I had dreamed so many times of a night like this, but to score three goals and win here at San Siro is beyond words.”

Nicolo Tresoldi’s profile so far

Tresoldi was born on August 20, 2004, in Cagliari, Italy. He was raised in Germany and progressed through the junior system of Hannover 96 before making his senior debut in 2022. In June 2025, he signed a deal with Belgian team Brugge that would last until 2029.

Nicolo Tresoldi is still eligible to play for Italy at the senior level, although he has represented Germany at the junior level, including the Under-21 squad. Germany are eager to keep a forward who has grown through their junior system, but the Azzurri have remained intrigued due to his Italian ancestry and fluency.

Nicolo Tresoldi had previously been under observation by Italy; according to reports, Azzurri coach Roberto Mancini sent a scout to the San Siro game. Mancini had acknowledged in September that he had spoken with the attacker, who was hesitant to decide until fulfilling his promise to play for Germany’s Under-21 team at the June European Championship.

Tresoldi is still dedicated to Germany’s Under-21 team for the time being, and winning the European Championship is one of his goals. Both nations are trying to sign one of the rising young forwards in European football, as his senior international selection is still up for debate.

Instead of being a conventional static target man, Nicolò Tresoldi is a contemporary, high-work-rate hybrid centre-forward who performs as a combination of a vertical runner and a technical link-up facilitator.

Instead of depending just on physical superiority, Tresoldi is excellent at timing curving runs against high defensive lines, seeing blind spots between centre backs, and taking advantage of open channels.
