The Vikings will face a stern test against the five-time champions Selecao in tonight’s match.

Norway take on Brazil in a feisty Round of 16 clash in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on July 5. Both sides secured 2-1 wins in their last-32 clashes to book a place at this stage, but the Vikings will be the underdogs in tonight’s match.

Goals from Antonio Nusa and Erling Haaland sealed a nervy 2-1 win over Ivory Coast in the last outing. Haaland has been in excellent goalscoring form for the Scandinavian side, netting five goals and trailing just Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi in the Golden Boot race.

The Manchester City striker will be key for the Vikings, who will take inspiration from history. The only time they faced Brazil in the World Cup was 28 years ago, when the South American giants lost 1-0.

Thoughts on the lineup

He replaces Torino’s Marcus Holmgren Pedersen at right-back. Wolves’ David Moller Wolfe starts on the left. The experienced centre-back pairing of Kristoffer Ajer and Torbjorn Heggem starts, protecting the goal of Orjan Nyland, who starts between the sticks.

Martin Odegaard has three assists to his name in the World Cup and starts in midfield along with Sander Berge and Patrick Berg, with the latter providing two assists. The midfield three will be key in breaking down the Brazilian defensive line.

Antonio Nusa scored the opener against Ivory Coast and starts on the left flank. Atletico Madrid striker Alexander Sorloth slots in on the right wing. Top-scorer Erling Haaland starts as the team’s lone centre-forward.
