The Nepal side equalized late on to earn a share of the points…
Oil India FC from Duliajan, Assam and Nepal 3 Star Club drew 1-1 yesterday in a Group A match of the Bordoloi Trophy played at Nehru Stadium, Guwahati. Right from the kick-off the Oil team enjoyed dominance over their opponents with much of the ball control resulting in an early goal in the 7th minute of the match. Nabin Rabha of Oil took a free-kick awarded to his team and placed a perfectly directed shot from a distance of nearly 22 yards, which went straight into the net. However, before that goal, in the 5th minute Mintu Boro of OI reveivED a pass from the left flank and attempted a shot from inside the box which failed to beat the keeper.. Oil custodian Nihal Das was in superb form, making some spectacular saves to deny the Nepalese outfit. Buddha Chemjong from 3 Star came close to finding the equaliser in the 20th minute, but goalkeeper Nihal made a tremendous effort to save by snatching the ball away from Buddha's feet before he could shoot. The Nepal outfit suffered a major blow in the 42nd minute when Bijay Dhimal was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for handling the ball inside the box. Switching over, in the second half 3 Star seemed desperate to get the equaliser with better possession and a much more offensive strategy. Finally they were successful in getting their goal in 89th minute, Bijoy Gurung who came on as a substitute scored the equalizer in the dying minutes of the match. Gurung could even have given his team the win if he hadn’t missed an easy opportunity a couple of minutes ago, capitalising on defence lapse in the OI back four. 3 Stars now have 4 points from 2 matches and Lajong FC also have 4 points from the same number of games .Oil India who played 2 matches have 2 points while Barak Flamingoz still have to open their accounts with 2 matches already played.
