The player deemed the best of the year in English football is awarded the Professional Footballers’ Association Men’s Players’ Player of the Year award every year.
The Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) has chosen Bruno Fernandes, the captain of Manchester United, as the men’s PFA Players’ Player of the Year for 2026.
Fernandes became the 12th United player to win the award and the first-ever Red Devils’ star to clinch the prize since 2010. The last United player to win the recognition was Rooney in 2010.
Fernandes defeated Declan Rice of Arsenal and Erling Haaland of Manchester City to win the prize at the PFA’s annual awards presentation on Tuesday in Manchester.
Fernandes wins the award, which was chosen by his fellow professionals, following what may have been his best season to date at Old Trafford, when he set a Premier League record with 21 assists last season.
Additionally, he became the first United player to win the accolade since Wayne Rooney in 2010, scoring nine goals in the top flight as United flipped around their campaign to finish in third.
