Many players have seen a rise in their wages after signing for a new club.
This summer has seen some significant spending, with Premier League teams being involved in the majority of the top transactions. With several teams investing large sums to bring in players, players’ pay will rise for the upcoming season.
Signing with a new club always implies that a player’s income will climb. But who has received the largest compensation increases this summer?
The top 10 is obviously dominated by Premier League, Saudi Pro League, and LaLiga’s major signings. Here is the whole list, which includes some unexpected names among the anticipated ones.

10. Bradley Barcola – £119,408 to £250,000 = £130,592 rise
Despite his evident talent, Bradley Barcola was never the primary man for PSG. But he will be one of Liverpool’s main players after joining for a sum of up to £123 million. The Reds will reportedly pay him a weekly wage/salary of £250,000 to reflect his status as one of their most valuable assets.
9. Francisco Trincao – £64,056 to £201,039 = £136,983 rise
Francisco Trincao’s career has taken a new turn with his transfer to Saudi Arabia. The former FC Barcelona and Wolves winger joined Al-Ahli from Sporting CP in July. He is now earning above £200,000 a week for the first time in his career.
8. Mateus Fernandes – £60,000 to £200,000 – £140,000 rise
Mateus Fernandes, like Summerville, left West Ham following their relegation. In his case, it was his second consecutive demotion, having been relegated with Southampton the previous year.
Fernandes’ wage has increased significantly each time he returns to the Premier League via a move. When he left Southampton for West Ham, his weekly salary increased from £20,000 to £60,000. It has now risen to £200,000 per week at Tottenham Hotspur.
7. Marco Palestra – £4,599 to £150,000 = £145,401 rise
Marco Palestra has had a remarkable climb over the last 12 months, as seen by his increased wage following his transfer to Chelsea. Last season, he served on loan at Cagliari from Atalanta. Being voted the best defender in Serie A along the way increased his stature significantly.
Chelsea have paid him accordingly.
6. Gabriel Martinelli – £180,000 to £330,646 = £150,646 rise
Gabriel Martinelli’s move from Arsenal to Al Hilal has been confirmed. The Brazilian, who spent half of his playing career in north London, joined Al Hilal this summer. He will bag a huge sum, increasing his wages by a lot.
5. Enzo Fernandez – £180,000 to £350,000 = £170,000 rise
Man City apparently believes Fernandez is worth the money. They made him their new record signing to replace Elliot Anderson. City paid Chelsea £125 million for Fernandez on deadline day.
While he wasn’t exactly living off the crumbs at Stamford Bridge, they’ve nearly doubled his salary. Fernandez is suddenly one of the Premier League’s highest-paid players, assuming reports of a £350,000-per-week wage are correct.
4. Crysencio Summerville – £45,000 to £234,709 = £189,709 rise
Crysencio Summerville was in the centre of a transfer fight following West Ham’s relegation this summer. In the end, Al Hilal outbid European rivals AS Roma with a significantly larger bid.
They also pay the Dutch winger far more than the Italians, as well as West Ham. Summerville’s pay has grown by around fivefold since his transfer to Saudi Arabia.
3. Elliot Anderson – £40,000 to £250,000 = £210,000 rise
Elliot Anderson, the man who is going to be mostly responsible for succeeding Rodri, became the most valuable Englishman in history when he joined City from Nottingham Forest.
He only had that status for a few weeks, but one thing will remain constant for the foreseeable future: his compensation. Anderson earned £40,000 per week at Forest. But his City salary is more than six times that amount.
2. Rodri – £220,000 to £444,782 = £224,782 rise
Barcelona discovered fresh financial flexibility this summer, allowing them to buy Rodri from Manchester City in a costly transaction. They’ve also been able to pay the midfielder appropriately high earnings, nearly twice what City was paying him.
Rodri has become Barcelona’s top-paid player. It is appropriate given his role as Spain’s captain and also being a previous Ballon d’Or winner.
1. Ollie Watkins: £130,000 to £410,618 = £280,618 rise
After six great years in the Premier League with Aston Villa, Ollie Watkins was ultimately lured away by the wage wealth on offer from Al Hilal. Watkins has agreed to a three-year contract with the Saudi club, which more than triples his salary.
Despite his significance to Villa, the striker had eight teammates earning more money than him last season. Now, he is Al Hilal’s fourth-highest earner.
