Selecao will be without handful of players.

For Portugal’s final UEFA Nations League Group A4 games, head coach Jorge Jesus has revealed a 28-man roster, the first after Cristiano Ronaldo’s retirement from international football.

Both right-back Alberto Costa of FC Porto and attacker Gustavo Varela of Monza, who are both getting their first senior call-ups, are included in the list. With nine goals this season, Varela is leading the Serie A scoring lists.

However, Portugal are going to be without Nuno Mendes, who is out owing to an injury, and Francisco Conceicao, who was suspended after receiving a red card against Norway. Despite being banned for the first match against Denmark, defender Joao Cancelo is still eligible for the match against Wales.

3. Goncalo Inacio

As part of a strategic and tactical change, head coach Jorge Jesus excluded Gonçalo Inácio from Portugal’s November 2026 UEFA Nations League roster.

In order to concentrate on a generational rebuilding of the team, Jorge Jesus made significant changes for the final group stage games against Denmark and Wales. He brought in seven new or returning players, including Alberto Costa and António Silva.

2. Francisco Conceicao

Due to a shoulder injury and a three-match UEFA ban, Francisco Conceň was not included in Portugal’s squad for the UEFA Nations League games in November. During Portugal’s 2-1 victory over Norway in October, Conceň was given a red card (two yellow cards for disobedience and harsh language).

He will miss Portugal’s next group-stage matches against Denmark and Wales (as well as the first leg of the Nations League quarterfinals in March) due to a three-match ban imposed by UEFA. Additionally, he is out due to a dislocated left shoulder he sustained while playing for Juventus against Lazio.

1. Nuno Mendes

Due to injury, Nuno Mendes was not included in Portugal’s squad for their UEFA Nations League games against Denmark and Wales in November. Due to a knock sustained during club play, the Paris Saint-Germain left-back has been sidelined. Jorge Jesus, the new head coach of Portugal, announced his 28-man roster for the final Group A4 matches.

Why Cristiano Ronaldo is not called-up?

He has recently retired from international football.

Why Nuno Mendes is withdrawn?

He is currently injured.
