Spain, on the other hand, had a similar start to their World Cup campaign, as Cape Verde held them to a 0-0 draw. However, they bounced back with two back-to-back wins against Saudi Arabia and Uruguay, clinching the top spot in Group H for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. They faced Austria in the Round of 32 and secured a convincing 3-0 win.

Cristiano Ronaldo finally ended his drought and scored his first World Cup knockout goal against Croatia. He has scored three goals in the tournament already and will look to add to his tally against Spain.
