Seleção das Quinas are planning to stage a retirement match for Ronaldo.

Portugal are attempting to repair relations with Cristiano Ronaldo and arrange a suitable farewell or retirement match. The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) has publicly rejected the claim that he has retired from international football.

Cristiano Ronaldo unexpectedly departed Portugal’s training camp ahead of their match against Denmark due to disagreements with head coach Jorge Jesus.

The rift began after Cristiano Ronaldo was left as an unused replacement in a 2-1 victory against Norway. Tensions grew about his decreased role and communication over starting lineups.

FPF authorities have dismissed rumours of his sudden international retirement or ban, stressing that he is still eligible to return. According to reports, the FA intends to meet with Ronaldo to settle matters and guarantee he has a ceremonial, joyous send-off rather than an abrupt departure.

Jesus, who previously managed Ronaldo at Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, took over the job from Roberto Martinez ahead of the UEFA Nations League campaign.

Portugal started with a 1-0 home win against Wales, with Cristiano Ronaldo playing the first 67 minutes. However, he was an unused substitute in the 2-1 away win over Norway. The forward subsequently departed the squad before the game against Denmark.

Portugal lead Group A4 after three games, with nine points from nine. They will play Norway at home on Sunday.

They finish the group phase next month, with a home fixture against Denmark on November 14 and a game at Wales on November 17.

Coach Jesus described Cristiano Ronaldo as a “symbol of Portugal” and said there would be time to address him after Sunday’s game in Porto.

“I’m going to focus on the team, on the opponent which is Norway, one of the five best teams in Europe. That’s the problem right now,” said the 72-year-old coach.

Bruno Fernandes hopes Ronaldo doesn’t leave the national team on a sour note

“I hope Cristiano does not leave the national team… and when or if he wants, it should be on a beautiful day to celebrate Cristiano; not like this”.

“He deserves the best. Cristiano is the biggest icon of our football, our country”, told B24.
