Premier Futsal set for grand launch

The much-awaited Premier Futsal 2016 is all set to kick-off today with a grand opening ceremony at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. The festivities in the lead up to the first set of games will feature amongst other things a performance by acclaimed singer A.R Rehman. Premier Futsal, is a first-of-its kind private, semi-professional league to be organized in India, in partnership with the Futsal Association of India. Speaking at the pre-tournament press conference Xavier Britto, Chairman and Promoter of Premier Futsal said, “we are extremely delighted to be able to present International legends of this stature to Indian audience.” The tournament will see some of the world’s most renowned futsallers pit their skills against some legendary footballers and all the star power was in attendance at the press meet ahead of opening day. “After all these years, it will be unique experience to be playing against the best futsallers and my friends who I have played against in the past,” said Brazilian ace Ronaldinho who will turn out for Goa 5s. Meanwhile, Manchester United legend Paul Scholes spoke of his surprise at the number of fans who thronged the airport to welcome him. “I was told there are a lot of Manchester United fans here, but I was pleasantly surprised to know that it was beyond my expectations,” he remarked in amazement. The combative midfielder will represent Bengaluru 5s. Fulsal great Falcao was not far behind and already seems to be taking a liking to the atmosphere. “I have been in Chennai only for a few hours now and this place already feels like home,” the forward explained. Ryan Giggs, Hernan Crespo and Real Madrid great Michel Salgado are some of the other football legends who will participate in the tournament.
