The England international has signed a deal which will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2023.

Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling has signed a new long-term contract that will keep him with the club till 2023. Sterling’s previous contract was supposed to expire in 18 months however, his representatives reached a verbal agreement on November 1 over a new deal, as the Englishman has decided to commit his future to the club.

“I’m delighted to sign. My development here has been incredible. I felt from the minute I got here it was the right choice for me. It’s really paid off for me and I’m really grateful,” said the 23 year-old on City’s website.

“Every season you come in, you want to do better than your previous season. You want to try and develop and get better,” he added.

“With the facilities we’ve got here, there’s no reason not to. With the coaching staff and the players we have in this team it’s the perfect environment to develop and get better.”

The England international joined the current Premier League champions in 2015 from Liverpool for a fee of £49 million. However, he struggled during his first two seasons as he scored 11 goals and 10 goals respectively in all competitions in more than 30 appearances in each of the seasons. His real game stepped up in 2017 when he scored 23 goals in his 33 appearances in all competitions. That season City went on to win the Premier League title with a record 100 points. Since then, the Jamaican-born winger has been a good option for Pep Guardiola in his star-studded attack.

In the ongoing season too, Sterling is in a good form as, in his 9 appearances overall in all competitions, he has scored 7 goals already.

City’s director of football Txiki Begiristain, particularly, was glad with Sterling signing a new deal saying, “ This is a significant moment for the club. Raheem has improved dramatically in the past two seasons and is now one of the Premier League’s best attacking players.”

“His statistics tell their own story. He’s quick, strong and excellent in front of goal- everything a modern-day forward needs to excel. We’re all delighted he has committed his future to City.”
