The Italian tactician has admitted there is much work to do on the training ground following his side's humbling defeat to Tottenham.

Maurizio Sarri's Chelsea suffered a heavy defeat on Saturday evening as Tottenham Hotspurs thumbed them 3-1 at Wembley Stadium. The defeat also ended Chelsea's 12 games unbeaten run of this season.

Chelsea's boss believes that the defeat would serve as a wake-up call for his team. The 59-year old believes that the London side is yet to absorb his tactical knowledge completely and hoped that the defeat at Wembley will help his side to grasp his tactics more quickly and efficiently.

In the post-match press conference, the Chelsea gaffer said,

"The character of the team is very strange," Sarri told journalists at Wembley Stadium. "93 points, the season after just 60 points, then 87 and then 70. Of course, I hope for a reaction. A reaction first of all in training and then in the next match but I knew very well that we have problems and that we have to work."

"Now everybody knows it. We have to work in all directions, I think. I hope [that this can be a wake-up call]. I knew very well that we had problems. So I told them this two weeks ago and one week ago. Now I think that the problem is evident."

After Chelsea's defeat, Liverpool and Manchester City remain the only clubs yet to be beaten in the Premier League this season.

"I hope it is for them because we have to work and improve. Today we had a lot of problems from the physical point of view, mental point of view, technically, we lost a lot of balls in our half. Also tactically because we had a big problem in staying compact."

The 59 years old also shed some light on the upcoming winter schedule where they will play 11 games in the next 38 days. The coach believes that it will be extremely difficult for players to recover so quickly as they will be playing a game every third day.

"I don’t know, it is very difficult to have time to try to improve the team and solve problems because we have time normally only to prepare for the next match, We have to play every three days. But we have to do something, we have to try to do something.

We have to try to improve as a team, first of all, then player-by-player." added Sarri.
