The German midfielder along with Sead Kolasinac will sit out against Newcastle United in the season opener due to "further security incidents."
Two men have been arrested in connection to the mugging attempt on Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac before the start of the season, a few weeks back.
The men have been identified as Ferhat Ercan, of Highgate, and Salaman Ekinci, of Tottenham. They have been charged under Section 4A of the Public Order Act and will appear at Highbury Magistrates' Court on September 6.
The attack happened soon after the German midfielder had bodied a Spurs fan on Twitter in reply to a post meant to troll him. The tweet had gone viral among the circles of Gooners and football fraternity. The assault is believed to be connected to that incident on Twitter since the miscreants are from Tottenham.
The club has said in a statement that the decision to not play them on Friday, at St James' Park is due to "further security incidents being investigated by the police".
It is also believed that the players would further have to take part in the legal proceedings as well.
The North London club also added that the welfare of the players and their families are the “top priority” and their safety has to be handled delicately.
In July, Ozil was attacked by armed assailants on a motorbike while he had come to pick up Sead Kolasinac. The Bosnian was able to fend off the attackers while Ozil ran for protection to a nearby restaurant.

Neither of the players were harmed though and were part of regular training sessions before the start of the season much to the relief of the fans.
