Some of these transfer sagas have run for most of the summer.

With the Premier League summer transfer deadline almost upon us, the clubs in the top flight of the English game are scrambling to get their business over the line and ready their squads for the start of the new campaign.

The rumour mill will go into full swing in the coming days as the window edges closer. We at Khel Now take you through the top five signings that we think could be completed by clubs in the Premier League before deadline day.

5. Abdoulaye Doucoure to Everton

The 26-year old Watford midfielder has impressed at Vicarage Road, with a number of very assured performances from midfield. It was reported that the hornets turned down a £32m bid from Everton earlier in the week, but with Idrissa Gueye having left to PSG, Marco Silva could be looking to bolster his midfield options and go back in with a second bid to be reunited with the Frenchman.

Doucoure scored five goals and made six assists from midfield in the 2018-2019 season and would be a valuable addition to an Everton side who will be looking to push for European football next season.

4. Mario Mandzukic to Manchester United

The 33-year-old Croatian striker was initially touted to be a part of the deal that saw Paulo Dybala move to Old Trafford with Romelu Lukaku going the other way. However, in the time that United’s deal for the Argentinian fell through, Mandzukic has emerged as a standalone target for the Red Devils. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has built a side that relies heavily on pace and technicality but it lacks a plan B with a lack of heading ability in the side following the departure of Marouane Fellaini.

Mandzukic would bring an experienced head to a very young Manchester United dressing room aside from being a top quality back up to the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

3. Bruno Fernandes to Manchester United/Tottenham Hotspurs

The Portuguese midfielder has had a stellar season for Sporting Lisbon scoring 31 goals from midfield. The 24-year old has been at the centre of a transfer saga for much of the summer, with several reports linking him to a move to Manchester United. Tottenham Hotspur also have looked a likely destination for the Sporting captain.

However, the Lisbon club are holding out for around £65m for their prized asset. It remains to be seen if the midfielder leaves the club where he made his name, this summer.

2. Giovanni Lo Celso to Tottenham Hotspurs

The Argentinian midfielder has been a hit in La Liga for Real Betis since his move from PSG. With 16 goals and four assists to his name, it is no surprise that he has been subject to bids from the Champions League finalists who have already added Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon to their midfield. Lo Celso would provide some much needed creative spark, should Christian Erikson decide to leave White Hart Lane this summer.

Betis are looking for upwards of £55m for their star player. Should Tottenham secure the signing of the Argentinian, a first trophy could be in the offing for the North London club and its manager.

1. Kieran Tierney to Arsenal

Arsenal’s woes in defence are very well documented, with the side being prolific in attack but leaking goals in defence and the signing of Nicolas Pepe signifies just this. Unai Emery will look to strengthen his defence starting with left back. Kieran Tierney is a player that fits the traditional Arsenal mould. Quick on his feet, comfortable in defence, pacey and with an eye for a pass. The Celtic man has been subject to interest from the North London club over the course of the summer and is said to be unsettled in Scotland according to his manager.

Celtic values Tierney at £30m, a valuation that Arsenal is yet to meet. It could be a busy few days for the Gunners.

The transfer window closes on August 8, 2019. We could yet see some very high profile entrants to the Premier League before the season begins. As it stands, we could be in for some surprises over the next nine months as we have come to expect from the English Premier League.
