Arsenal faced FC Zurich midweek and Manchester United hosted Real Sociedad in the UEFA Europa League. Both the games held a one-minute silence before kick-off and wore black armbands as a mark of respect for Queen Elizabeth II.
There were doubts whether Matchday 8 would go ahead as planned or it would be postponed. But the Premier League announced that the Matchday 8 fixtures will be going ahead as planned. But three more fixtures and a Europa League clash. were postponed. The games have been postponed due to the security needs around the queen's funeral.

When can the postponed matches be played?
The biggest problem to reschedule the postponed games is that there are no available dates in 2022. The English top flight schedule from now till the start of the 2022 World Cup is jam-packed with four rounds of European games, a full set of Premier League matches and the third round of the Carabao Cup. Arsenal vs PSV in the UEFA Europa League has been rescheduled for 20th October.
English football returns just two days after the World Cup final on December 20th with the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. After this are three rounds of Premier League matchday over the Christmas and holiday season. If two teams are eliminated from the domestic cup competitions, their matches and can be rescheduled midweek.
But if the English teams reach the later round of the European competition, there will be next to no midweek spot left to reschedule the games of those teams. The season cant also be extended as the FA Cup final is scheduled to go ahead on June 3, The UEFA Champions League 2022-23 final is scheduled for June 10. Right after that, there is an international break for Euro 2024 qualifying matches.
Fitting the postponed games in the current calendar will be more of a luck game rather than a sure and planned execution for the Premier League.
