The Brazilian has left the club owing to personal reasons.
Bengaluru FC have parted ways with midfielder Raphael Augusto after a solitary season together, the club has confirmed. “Bengaluru FC and Raphael Augusto have mutually agreed to terminate the Brazilian’s contract with the club, owing to personal reasons. We wish Rapha and his family the best through this phase,” the Blues announced.
Raphael Augusto had joined Bengaluru FC in 2019 from Chennaiyin FC on a two-year deal. He made nine appearances in the Indian Super League in 2019-20.
A veteran of the Indian Super League, the 29-year-old has featured in five seasons of the Indian top flight. Raphael Augusto had first joined the Marina Machans in 2015 and won two league titles with the club. In 2019, Bengaluru FC secured his services from the Marina Machans in a notable transfer scoop. However, Augusto's stint with the Blues has come to an immediate end due to undisclosed reasons.
The next season of the ISL is set to commence later this year. Moreover, the ongoing transfer window will conclude on October 20. In such circumstances, Bengaluru FC will have to sign a replacement to an instrumental international player. Though Augusto did not play many matches last season, he still proved out to be a valuable alternative for head coach Carles Cuadrat. Raphael Augusto made 38 tackles, 17 interceptions, and 11 blocks in nine matches in the previous campaign. The Brazilian also recorded a passing accuracy of 70.2% and assisted a goal.
The 2018-19 ISL champions have brought in a host of domestic players like Pratik Chaudhari, Ajith Kumar, Joe Zoeherlina amongst others for their 2020-21 campaign. However, they have only announced Cleiton Silva as a new overseas player and with the departure of Raphael Augusto, one can expect more transfer activity at the club in the next few days.
