The visitors maintained their 100% record in the league.

Real Betis hosted FC Barcelona in a Matchday 9 fixture of LaLiga 2026-27 at Estadio La Cartuja de Sevilla on Saturday, October 17, 2026. The Blaugrana secured a dominant 4-2 win over Betis, who were reduced to 10 men.

Lamine Yamal opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a wonderful curling effort that found the top corner. However, the visitors could not hold on to their lead as Betis equalised through Valentin Gomez in the 27th minute.

Rodri put the visitors ahead in the 41st minute, heading in Fermin Lopez’s corner. Giovani Lo Celso found the back of the net just three minutes later for Betis, but it was overturned by VAR for handball.

Gabriel Jesus doubled the Catalan side’s lead just six minutes after the restart. However, former Barca player Abde Ezzalzouli pulled one back just three minutes later to make it 3-2.

The game, however, turned in Barcelona’s favour moments later when Facundo Bernal was sent off for confronting Yamal. Eric Garcia then capitalised on the numerical advantage in the 62nd minute, heading in from a set-piece situation. Dani Olmo added a fifth goal in the 81st minute to complete the rout.

The result continued Barcelona’s 100% record in LaLiga, with the Blaugrana having won all of their nine league matches so far to stay at the top of the league.

Five things we learned from Real Betis vs Barcelona match:

Catch Every Update, Anytime, Anywhere

1. Lamine Yamal at his very best

An early goal of the season contender from Yamal, who opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a wonderful strike. The No. 10 received the ball from Jules Kounde before cutting inside and hitting a superb curling effort with his left foot. The ball flew past Alvaro Valles and nestled into the top corner.

This marked Yamal’s 13th goal contribution in the league this season (eight goals and five assists). The youngster is quietly establishing himself as a favourite to lift the Ballon d’Or at the end of the calendar year.

2. Errors at the back allow Betis to come back

Despite being second best for most of the opening half-hour, Real Betis were handed a lifeline from a corner, and a comedy of errors from the Barca defence allowed the hosts to equalise.

The inswinging delivery into the box was missed by both Gabriel Jesus and Pedri, and the ball was played to Valentin Gomez by Pablo Fornals. The former headed the ball past Joan Garcia from close range.

3. Rodri opens his Barca account

Real Betis were actually on the front foot towards the end of the first half. The home side had a golden opportunity to take the lead when Fornals found Hector Bellerin, but the right-back’s powerful shot was saved brilliantly by Garcia.

Rodri relieved the pressure, at least temporarily, heading in Fermin Lopez’s corner. This marked his first goal for the Catalan giants since his big-money move from Manchester City in the summer.

4. Greatest overturned goal ever?

Just three minutes after Rodri’s goal, Betis were on the attack. The ball hit Kounde’s shin and bounced in front of the penalty area. Giovani Lo Celso, on the turn, hit the ball with all his might, and it flew past Garcia and almost took the net off the frame of the goal.

Betis’ joy, however, was short-lived. VAR asked the referee to take a look at a possible handball by Cucho Hernandez in the build-up to the goal, and it was eventually overturned on review, much to the frustration of Betis head coach Manuel Pellegrini.

5. Red card turns the match for Barca

Before Facundo Bernal’s completely needless red card, Betis were well and truly in the contest. Abde’s goal had cut the deficit to just one goal, and the Blaugrana were looking far from their fluent best.

However, when the Catalan side protested Abde’s goal, Bernal decided that the best way to react would be to grab Yamal and attempt to headbutt the youngster not once but twice. The referee had little choice but to send him off, and Betis’ comeback efforts were well and truly done and dusted by that moment.
