Goa put whopping 14 past Dadra & Nagar Haveli, qualify for Santosh Trophy

Olwin Cardozo and Denson Fernandes scored four goals each, while Aaren D’Silva scored a hat-trick for the hosts.

Goa qualified for the Santosh Trophy final phase, as they hammered Dadra & Nagar Haveli by a 14-0 margin in the West Zone Qualifiers match played at Duler Stadium on Friday.

Olwin Cardozo and Denson Fernandes scored four goals each, while Aaren D’Silva scored a hat-trick for Goa. Whereas, Ribhav Sardesai, Stendly Fernandes and Sanson Pereira also scored one each for the hosts. 

The hosts made wholesale changes, as Clive Miranda, Stendly Fernandes Aaren D’Silva, Moises D’Sa, Olvin Cardozo and keeper Ozen Silva were given starts by their coach Levino Pereira. Whereas, Dadra coach Chandan Rathod made two changes to his side which lost to Rajasthan in the last match, as Dilip Verma and Akshay Vangad were included in the starting XI.

Goa who had defeated Madhya Pradesh in the last match by a 7-1 margin, started the game in similar fashion, as it was just four minutes on the clock when the hosts took the lead. Olvin’s square pass was easily tapped in by Aaren from close range to make it 1-0. Olwin doubled the lead for his team in the very next minute, as he shot past the rival keeper from 10 yards after receiving a cut-back from Sardesai.

Dominant Goa scored five more goals in the next 30 minutes, First, Aaren scored his second of the match in the 16th minute, as a curling cross from Clive Miranda was brilliantly headed in from an acute angle to make it 3-0. A few minutes later, Olvin also netted his second, as Stendly’s cross was smartly tapped in by the striker to make it 4-0. 

Stendly made it 5-0 with a powerful shot from inside the box which entered the top corner. Olvin came up with another assist in the 32nd minute, as this time he set up Denson with a short pass, where the midfielder made an easy tap-in from point-blank range making it 6-0. 

Goa further extended their lead in 36th minute, as a fine cross from Samuel Costa was brilliantly controlled in the box by Ribhav, whose sparkling shot gave no chance to Dadra keeper Pulkit Singh, as the hosts were leading by seven goals at half-time.

Goa continued to dominate from the start of the second session and quickly added two more goals within the first six minutes. First, Olvin completed his hat-trick when he nicely chested down Ribhav’s cross and clinically beat the onrushing rival keeper with his last touch. Two minutes later, Ribhav sent in another fine cross from the right flank, which Denson nicely controlled before finishing the ball in the net.

The goals continued to rain, as Olvin scored his fourth and the team’s 10th in the 58th minute, when his powerful strike from close in finished in the back of the nylons. Aaren and Denson also completed their hat-tricks in the 70th and 72nd minutes.

Substitute defender Sanson Pereira and Denson scored one each in the dying minutes of the match, as the hosts qualified with a huge win.

In the other match played in the morning, Rajasthan defeated Madhya Pradesh 2-1. MP took the lead in the 14th minute through Bikram Sarkar, but two late second half goals from Sanjay Lamba and Shivam Bhaker helped Rajasthan to finishsecond in Group B.
