AC Milan to make a January move for Gary Cahill?
The Rossoneri are desperately in need of a good centre-back as they are facing an injury crisis.
AC Milan look to have been hit by an injury bug having lost several key players for long term. Although, the Rossoneri are getting good results this season with only three losses in their opening 12 games in the Serie A, losing out on key players like Lucas Biglia, Giacomo Bonaventura, Mattia Caldara, Mateo Musacchio and recently Alessio Romagnoli to injury has been a big problem for them.
Gennaro Gattuso is facing a real problem while selecting the defence as only Cristian Zapata is available as the natural centre-back. However, considering that the 32-year-old hasn’t been one of the frequently started players in recent years, the defence will be lacking a strong and commanding figure.
With the January transfer window coming closer, reports from Corriere dello Sport of Milan suggest that the club might be looking for Chelsea’s Gary Cahill as a possible option for loan. The out-of-favour Englishman has appeared just once for the Blues in the Premier League this season and the club will most probably be looking to offload him in the summer when his contract expires. However, since Milan desperately need a centre-back, they might sign Cahill on a short-term loan in January with an option of a permanent transfer in the summer.

The latter has never played outside of England but so was the case with former Chelsea player Ashley Cole who went on to play for Roma and is currently playing for LA Galaxy in the Major League Soccer (MLS). Thus, 32-year-old Cahill too can make a good impact in Milan as he has been a great centre-back for Chelsea and England over the years.
Meanwhile, reports suggest veteran fullback Ivan Strinic is in contention to return soon but Gattuso certainly cannot rely on him. In fact, the seven-time Champions League winners are so short on defenders, that they might need to play Tiemoue Bakayoko- a midfielder and Ricardo Rodriguez- a left-back, as central defenders most probably in a three-man backline for the time being.
