Rui Patricio was signed by Jose Mourinho last season after witnessing his heroics at Wolves during his time in the English Premier League. Additionally, the Portuguese goalkeeper didn't disappoint his master in his first season in Italy and delivered the best performance of his career. Patricio kept 15 clean sheets last season and was a crucial member of the leadership group. Roma will again rely on him to guard the fort.

Centre back- Gianluca Mancini

The sensational Gianluca Mancini emerged last season as one of Jose Mourinho's pillars of trust in the defence. Smalling's career has taken a turn for the better since he arrived in Rome. For years, the English defender warmed the bench at Manchester United but has since emerged as Roma's most influential defender. Smalling made 27 appearances last season in Serie A and will be a starter in the upcoming season.

Right wing back- Zeki Celik

Zeki Celik is one of the new players at Stadio Olimpico this season. The Turkish right back has arrived from French club Lille. He was a key figure at Lille and played a big role in their French League winning season in 2020-21. Mourinho used Rick Karsdorp on the right last season, but Celik might get the nod due to his overall ability. Celik is a typical Mourinho-type player with a ruthless character.

The future of Nicolo Zaniolo at Olimpico Stadium has been the subject of much speculation this summer. However, despite big interest from Juventus and Tottenham Hotspur, the Italian attacker appears destined to stay at Roma. With two goals and two assists in 28 appearances, Zaniolo looked decent after returning from an injury last season. The combination of him, Dybala and Pellegrini in preseason games has shown real promise, and he will be hoping to continue during the season as well.
