The officials called off the match due to the absence of corner flags and ball boys.
Shillong Premier League which is one of the most prestigious tournaments in Meghalaya witnessed a surprising day at the office on Monday. The 12th match in the league between Malki SC and Meghalaya Police was abandoned for the most ridiculous reasons you could have ever heard of.
The fans in Meghalaya are very passionate about their football and like every other day, they flocked to the ground to support their teams and to enjoy the sport. But, probably the most unexpected thing happened. It was just like another day at the office for the players and the match officials, as they came out shook hands, had the coin toss and were gearing up for kick-off.
Watch: The game between Meghalaya Police and Malki SC was called off
When Raja Sharab of Meghalaya Police was all set to get the match going, the players noticed that there were no corner flags, the nets were not setup properly and the biggest shock was that there were no ball boys. The match was abandoned half an hour later and the reasons were quite bizarre, to say the least.
The players left the field very disappointed, but the ultimate harassment was faced by the fans who were disgusted as they had to rush to the ticket counter to get their refund. The match has been postponed and hopefully the SSA (Shillong Sports Association) will sort things out as on Wednesday, Langsning play Sawmer in the next game and fans and players alike will be hoping that the match starts at the scheduled 3.45 PM (IST).

[KH_RELATED_NEWS title="Related News"][/KH_RELATED_NEWS]Langsning FC are now in pole position to win the league, though there is a lot to play for as the tables may turn at any moment. Sawmer SC, on the other hand, lost 0-1 to Nangkiew Irat SC in their latest SPL encounter and will look to showcase an improved performance against Langsning.
It a very disappointing picture that is being portrayed by this incident as football in India is on the move. but incidents like this will definitely question the professionalism in the game. Hopefully, the SSA will take correct measures and such instances will not be repeated in the future.
