Two underdogs begin their UCL campaign by facing each other.
Tonight, Lens will meet Slavia Prague at Fortuna Arena in Czechia in their first League Phase encounter of the 2026-27 Champions League season.
The sole prior meeting between these two teams occurred in 1995-96, when Slavia won 1-0 on aggregate in the UEFA Cup’s third round.
Slavia Prague are playing in the Champions League for the second consecutive season and just the fourth time in club history, having won the Czech First League championship in 2025-26, losing only one of their 30 games and finishing eight points ahead of rivals Sparta Praha.
The Red and Whites begin European competition after a 4-0 home victory over Brno last Saturday, which showcased a ferocious frontline to support a defence that has yielded only five goals domestically this entire season.
Lens, like Slavia Prague, is preparing for their fourth Champions League appearance, having been ousted in the group stage in 1998-99, 2002-03, and 2023-24, respectively.
Dino Toppmoller is Lens’ new manager, replacing Pierre Sage, and the German tactician has had a rocky start to the 2026-27 Ligue 1 season. Following a 5-2 victory against Auxerre on the first weekend, the team suffered back-to-back defeats to Strasbourg (2-1) and Lorient (1-0), falling to the latter last Saturday.
