Slovenian official Slavko Vincic is confirmed to officiate the highly anticipated FIFA World Cup 2026 final clash between Spain and Argentina. He will be managing his fourth game of the 2026 campaign, cementing his stature as one of the most trusted European referees.

Tomaž Klančnik and Andraž Kovačič will be his assistants for the game. The Slovenian trio has worked together across major high-profile matches. It includes the UEFA Champions League Final 2024, UEFA Europa League Final 2022, Euro 2024 Semi-Final, as well as games at the World Cup.

The match marks a massive feat for the European refereeing community. It will be the first time in history that a Slovenian refereeing crew has been selected to officiate the World Cup final.

Slavko Vincic has managed three games so far in the tournament. His appointment has raised massive eyebrows. Argentina famously suffered a shocking 2-1 defeat against Saudi Arabia in their opening group fixture at the FIFA World Cup 2022.

Who is Slavko Vincic?

Slavko Vincic was born in Maribor, Slovenia, in 1979. His first major tournament appearance came in 2012. He was named as an aditional assistants during for the UEFA EUROs.

Beyond his refereeing career, Vincic holds a degree in Telecommunications. He serves as the Managing Director of Slovenian company Latro Mont d.o.o.

He received his international FIFA badge in 2010. He has since taken charge of massive footballing fixtures. It includes the UEFA Europa League final in 2022, the UEFA Champions League final in 2024, and several World Cup matches.

Slavko Vincic’s World Cup Record

By officiating the Spain vs Argentina game, Slavko Vincic will be managing his seventh career game as a head referee at the FIFA World Cup. His tournament debut came in the 2022 edition in Qatar. He managed three matches in that edition.

It included a memorable moment. He famously officiated in one of the greatest shocks in World Cup history. Saudi Arabia defeated Argentina 2-1 at the group stage.

In the FIFA World Cup 2026, he has refereed three matches so far. His first game was the group stage match between Brazil and Morocco. He then took charge of Algeria’s 2-0 victory over Algeria, before overseeing Mexico’s historic 2-0 win against Ecuador in the Round of 32.
