Big football personalities have participated in WWE events
Football and wrestling are two very different worlds that rarely overlap. Nonetheless, there have been a few instances in the past where some of the most well-known football players have joined the WWE. Even though it isnât comparable to football, the WWEâs rising stardom is impressive.
There are a number of football players on the list, in addition to YouTubers, American football players, and NBA celebrities who have aspired to attend and participated in WWE events. Let us look at some of the top football players who have appeared at WWE events.
4. Tim Wiese
Although he may not be the most well-known football player, Tim Wiese is one of the few who have competed in the ring. Triple H asked Wiese to train and compete as a wrestler in the event when he retired.
Tim just wanted to be prepared to perform for his German fans. As promised, Wiese worked hard and was prepared to compete by November 2016. At WWE Live, he competed with Sheamus and Cesaro. Bo Dallas and the Shining Stars were beaten up by the three of them fighting together.
3. John Terry
John Terry is considered an icon of Chelsea FC, having played for the West London team for most of his career. Terry made 717 appearances overall throughout his tenure with the Blues, and despite his retirement, John remains a vital member of the team. He now works as a staff member at Chelseaâs youth program.
Terry was present when WWE first travelled to London for an event. The former English defender spent time with Cesaro, Charlotte Flair, and Seth Rollins when he was there. In addition, Triple H visited John Terry at Stamford Bridge and presented him with a personalised Championship belt that featured the Chelsea emblem.
2. Vincent Kompany
Vincent Kompany is regarded as a legend of Manchester City. The Belgian made 360 appearances overall while he was a member of Man City. Perhaps the best defender to play for the Manchester City team is Kompany. The 38-year-old is currently the manager of Bayern Munich, a German powerhouse.
When Kompany appeared in wrestling, it was through an interview. The Etihad Stadium, home of Manchester City, was visited by numerous WWE stars, including Sheamus and Cesaro. Here, Kompany and Cesaro exchanged questions, bringing football and wrestling together.
1. Wayne Rooney
Back in 2015, Wayne Rooney appeared at World Wrestling Entertainment. The English striker had played a game against Preston North End just before attending Monday Night Raw. Rooney was accused of diving for a penalty near the conclusion of Man Unitedâs 3-1 victory. Wade Barret was upset about this and reprimanded the striker while he was present.
Despite Barretâs remarks, Rooney, who plays for Manchester United, remained unfazed. Instead, he urged Wade Barrett to approach and, when he did, slapped him across the face.
Following a back-and-forth between the two on X, Barrett was subsequently seen waiting for Rooney at Old Trafford. Their exchange was mainly for show, though, and the two are still friends.
