La Roja are attempting to reach the World Cup final for the second time ever.

Spain take on France in a feisty FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-final clash at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on July 14. La Roja have been one of the standout teams in the tournament, winning all but one of their games so far in the expanded 48-team edition in North America.

The European champions topped Group I despite an opening-day draw against Cape Verde. Following back-to-back wins against Saudi Arabia (4-0) and Uruguay (1-0), they cruised past Austria 3-0 in the Round of 32.

La Roja then battled past Portugal in the Round of 16, with Mikel Merino scoring late in the contest. The midfielder scored late again in the next game, sealing a 2-1 win against Belgium. This booked La Roja’s place in the last four for the second time in their history.

Thoughts on the lineup

With no fresh injury issues to contend with, Luis de la Fuente opts for an unchanged side from the previous match. Unai Simon is the established No. 1 for his country and starts in goal. In front of him is the centre-back pairing of Pau Cubarsi and Aymeric Laporte, with Pedro Porro and Marc Cucurella starting as full-backs.

Rodri wears the captain’s armband and starts in the middle of the park alongside Fabian Ruiz, who came into the starting lineup in the previous match and scored. Dani Olmo has been in good form and starts in an advanced role.

Lamine Yamal is the star for this Spanish side and starts on the right flank, while Alex Baena starts on the left. Mikel Oyarzabal has scored four goals at this World Cup and starts as the team’s lone centre-forward.
