Copa America is scheduled to take place between June 20 and July 14. The confederation in charge of staging the competition, CONMEBOL, stated on Thursday that the team size has been increased from 23 to 26.
At the FIFA conference in Bangkok, Thailand, the officials of CONMEBOL, the tournament’s organiser, decided to proceed with squad enlargement for the European Championship.
Founded in 1916, Copa America is the world’s oldest ongoing continental competition that has selected South America’s champions over the years. However, CONMEBOL and CONCACAF, the North American football governing bodies, collaborated to organise the tournament last year.
“Regarding the number of players on the roster, the decision is that each team may register up to a maximum of 26 players in the competition (on the roster), maintaining a total of 50 individuals in the delegation covered by the event’s organization (accommodation, meals, transportation, etc., according to the financial regime and prize structure outlined in Chapter 17 of the Competition Regulations),” CONMEBOL said in a statement.

“All players (up to 26 players) must be included in the Provisional List submitted by May 5, 2024 (6:00 p.m. Paraguay time), according to Article 58 of the Regulations.”
The 48th iteration of the competition will so comprise 16 teams, six of which will be from North America. The Copa America defending champion Argentina, captained by Lionel Messi, will begin their championship defence on June 21.
