Sunderland, bottom of the standings, will be desperate for Premier League points tonight when they host Leeds United at the Stadium of Light.
The Whites are looking for their first win in four games while the Black Cats are looking to break a run of four top-flight defeats this weekend.
Sunderland, under Regis Le Bris, had a stellar 2025-26 season, gaining promotion from the EFL Championship and finishing seventh to reach the UEFA Europa League.
But it’s been a dreadful start to the 2026-27 season for the Black Cats, who are now propping up the table in 20th place. They have only four points to their name in seven matches into the campaign.
Meanwhile, Daniel Farke’s Leeds ended 14th last term but are dreaming of a top-five place in advance of their visit to Wearside this weekend.
The Whites are now eighth in the rankings with 10 points, two behind fifth-placed Liverpool, who play Brighton on Sunday.
Farke’s team may take heart from the fact they have lost only one of their past four matches, coming from behind to draw 1-1 against Manchester United last time out.
The visitors have also only won one away game in the Premier League this season. Additionally, they have surrendered eight goals in their past two away games in all competitions.
Sunderland vs Leeds United: Match facts
Sunderland are at the bottom of the table and have won only once this season.
Leeds United have secured only two wins in seven matches this campaign so far.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been in sensational form for Leeds, scoring four goals in seven games.
Leeds United have found top-flight wins on Wearside exceedingly hard to come by; their last Premier League away win over Sunderland came in 2002.
In their previous 10 head-to-head encounters over the years, the record is precisely even with 3 victories for Sunderland, 3 wins for Leeds and 4 ties.
