The Prime minister took to his social media and congratulated Chhetri by stating, “Well done Sunil Chhetri! This will certainly boost football’s popularity in India.”
Narendra Modi also said that this would boost the popularity of the beautiful game in the country. In reply to Prime Minister’s congratulatory message, Sunil Chhetri expressed his gratitude towards him and said that it has been a matter of pride to represent the nation.

About Captain Fantastic
The governing body of football, FIFA has named the series ‘Captain Fantastic.’ It runs through Chhetri’s ups and downs both on and off the pitch across three episodes. The series talks about Chhetri’s past and present and has been filmed in Bangalore and the national capital New Delhi.
The docuseries also unfolds a lot of what is undiscovered about Sunil Chhetri. The first episode projects the beginning of a great era in Indian football i.e. Chhetri’s international debut for India at age of 20 against Pakistan. Moreover, it also shows his association with his close and loved ones with his footballing colleagues playing the role of perfect narrators.
The second episode showcases how Chhetri picked up pace from being just another 20-year-old to being India’s absolute best in the game. And the third episode, shows Chhetri’s zen state where winning trophies and individual accolades became his habit and records were shattered.
This is indeed a special gesture by FIFA despite India failing to qualify for the World Cup numerous times. Chhetri is currently the third highest active goal scorer in international football.
Currently, the Indian captain is tied on 84 goals with Hungarian legend Ferenc Puskás. Sunil Chhetri has done so much for India, both on and off the field, that his contribution to the sport in the country has to be hailed. The 38-year-old's presence has always been an added advantage for the Blue Tigers because he is more than just a player.
