The Schweizer-Nati are seeking to progress to the Round of 16 for the fourth consecutive time.
Switzerland take on Algeria in their Round of 32 clash in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026 at BC Place in Vancouver, Canada, on July 2. The Schweizer-Nati did well to finish top of Group B ahead of co-hosts Canada, and will be slight favourites against their North African opponents.
The European side had a disappointing start to their campaign. They were held to a 1-1 draw with Qatar, with Breel Embolo’s opener from the spot being cancelled by a late own goal from Miro Muheim.
They returned to winning ways in the next match, beating Bosnia and Herzegovina 4-1. Youngster Johan Manzambi netted a brace, while Ruben Vargas and Granit Xhaka also found the back of the net.
Vargas and Manzambi scored again in the next match to beat Canada 2-1, sealing their place in the knockout stages. Murat Yakin’s men are now targeting a place in the last 16 for the fourth consecutive time.
