With progress already in the bag, Switzerland will host Group B1 strugglers North Macedonia at the Thermoplan Arena tonight in a UEFA Nations League clash.
The Red Crosses will be trying for their fourth consecutive win, while the Lions are keen to avoid a loss.
Switzerland’s Murat Yakin has had a fantastic Nations League campaign thus far, with three wins from three, putting them in a great position heading into this match.
The Red Crosses rebounded from their World Cup exit by defeating Tuesday’s opponents 3-0 on September 26. Remo Freuler and Zeki Amdouni scored twice in the first half, and the latter sealed the victory in the second.
Yakin’s side replicated their 3-0 victory over Scotland at Hampden Park three days later, before defeating Slovenia 2-1 on Saturday.
Meanwhile, North Macedonia have had a difficult year under Goce Sedloski’s leadership, and the 52-year-old is under intense criticism after a disappointing Nations League performance.
After a 3-0 setback against today’s hosts on matchday one, as well as a 2-0 loss to Slovenia on September 29, former Lions star Igor Gjuzelov stated that the manager “should be honest with himself and resign immediately.”
Sedloski would have expected his squad to respond against Scotland on Saturday, but they lost 2-0 – a particularly devastating outcome given that the Scots had not scored in four straight meetings before their encounter in Skopje.
Given that North Macedonia are still looking for their first goal of 2026 – a record of seven games with five defeats – it is impossible to argue against such a notion.
