This chart features some of the best European players in history.

We have seen a host of incredible goals created with sheer deftness at the European Championships. From Marco Van Basten’s thunderous volley in 1988 to Karel Poborsky’s sublime chip in the 1996 quarter finals. From Cristiano Ronaldo’s nimble flick in 2016 to Balotelli’s staggering strike into the top corner in 2012. Over the years, we have seen some extraordinary goals. However, it is also important to credit the players, who created those goals. Some of those players ended with the most assists in the history of the UEFA Euro.

None of these historic goals would have been possible were it not for the ones who create them. More often than not, the assist providers go under the radar and do not get the credit they deserve. The Euros have been blessed with an abundance of creative players over the years. The list of the highest assist providers is not shy of talent.

Khel Now takes a look at the top 10 players with most assists in the history of the UEFA Euro.

10. Steven Zuber (Switzerland) - 4

Steven Zuber scripted history when he assisted three goals in a single game against Turkey during the Euro 2020 group stage. The 29-year-old joined Hamit Altintop as the only players to have assisted three or more goals in a game at the European Championship. Zuber also assisted one more in Switzerland's 3-3 draw against France, who they went on to beat on penalties to progress to the quarter-finals. Zuber has become one of only five players to make four or more assists in a single edition of the Euro finals.

10. Luis Nani (Portugal) - 4

Luis Nani won the Euro tournament with Portugal in 2016

The Portuguese has proven to be a cult hero for Manchester United over the years. He has produced several moments of brilliance with his wonder goals. Currently 34, Nani has been as integral to his national side as he has been at the club level.

Nani has provided four assists over three editions of the competition, registering an assist in all three - 2008, 2012, 2016. The winger played a crucial role in Portugal’s coup of the Euro 2016.

9. Aaron Ramsey (Wales) - 4

This is only the second time Wales have qualified for the European Championships in their history. The former Arsenal talisman is once again playing a crucial role for his nation. In Wales’ debut in the competition in 2016, Ramsey registered four assists. He holds the joint record for most assists in a single edition of the Euros.

Moreover, Ramsey held one of the best assists per game ratio with four assists in five games prior to the 2020 edition. He is yet to register an assist after two matches at UEFA Euro 2020. However, Ramsey has got onto the scoresheet once. In fact, there are 12 players including Ramsey and Nani with four assists. Switzerland's Steven Zuber is the latest to reach the mark in EURO 2020, and will look to add to his tally.

8. David Beckham (England) - 5

Beckham made 115 appearances for England, captaining them in 59 games

Although Beckham’s achievements at the European Championships have not been exceptional, he has registered five assists in the competition. He is also England’s highest assist provider in the history of the competition.

7. Eden Hazard (Belgium) - 5

Prior to the competition, the Belgian maestro had four assists to his name. However, his meaningful cameo against Denmark recently added another to his tally. Hazard made his debut at the Euros in 2016 and played a stellar role in Belgium's run to the quarter-finals.

Just like Aaron Ramsey, Hazard too boasts the record of joint-highest assists in one edition of the competition with four. Midway into Euro 2020, Hazard has one of the best assist to matches ratio with five assists in seven appearances.

6. Luis Figo (Portugal) - 5

One of the greatest Portuguese players to have ever graced the game, Luis Figo was part of the side that reached the final in Euro 2004. Figo is one of the few players, who has registered an assist in three different seasons - 1996, 2000, 2004. The former Ballon d’Or winner is one of the most skillful and graceful players to have ever graced the tournament.

5. Arjen Robben (Netherlands) - 5

Arjen Robben, touted as a one-trick pony, proved that he was unstoppable despite knowledge of his playing style. The Dutch winger has five assists to his name in the tournament with all of them coming in the group stages. Robben could have certainly improved his number. However, the Netherlands’ poor record in the Euros over the last decade made it impossible.

In 2012, the Dutch were drawn in the group of death along with Germany and Portugal. Moreover, they failed to qualify for Euro 2016 - one of the biggest disappointments in recent times.

4. Bastian Schweinsteiger (Germany) - 5

Schweinsteiger was part of the German side that finished runners-up in the 2008 edition

Germany’s midfield general for a long time, Schweinsteiger proved to be a keystone to Germany’s success between 2008-2016. He has appeared in four different editions of the competition and registered assists in three of them - 2004, 2008, 2012. The German has five assists in the competition and is Germany’s highest-assist provider in the competition.

3. Cesc Fabregas (Spain) - 5

One of the most creative players to have ever graced the game, Fabregas was a tremendous asset for Spain. He played a key role in Spain’s campaign in 2008 and 2012 editions. His biggest praiseworthy trait in his performances at the Euros has to be his versatility.

Under Vincente Del Bosque, Fabregas played in different positions in the midfield as well as a false nine. With five assists to his name, Fabregas has produced three of those in the knockouts, proving his importance to the side.

2. Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) - 7

Cristiano Ronaldo has already scored three goals and assisted once in Euro 2020

One of the greatest players of all time, Ronaldo is the highest goalscorer in the history of the competition. He is also within touching distance of breaking the record for the most assists at the UEFA Euro. Ronaldo has registered assists in three different editions of the tournament.

He is also one of the youngest players to have assisted at the Euros. With three goals and an assist already in the Euro 2020, Ronaldo looks set to break yet another record.

1.  Karel Poborsky (Czech Republic) - 8

Karel Poborsky played a crucial role in Czech Republic's incredible run to the final in Euro 1996, when they lost to Germany in extra time. Poborský has eight assists to his name in this competition.

He holds joint records for most assists in the group stage and knockout rounds. He also made four assists in 2004, which is the joint highest in a single edition.

Although he is not one of the most well-known players of the game, Poborský scored one of the competition's most iconic goals against Portugal in1996.
