Football is not generally reserved to lanky players, even though the game has certain areas where height can benefit you. This is particularly because of quick movement that becomes a necessity in a fluid and dynamic game. Despite these limitations, there have been several tall footballers who have made a lasting impact in the game like England's Peter Crouch. However, even Crouch is not the tallest, compared to these footballers who have played at a professional level for a long time.
Here are the tallest active players in world football at the moment.

5. Stefan Maierhofer - 6.62 feet
Veteran Maierhofer has had a journeyman career. Starting his professional journey with First Vienna in 2002, Maierhofer has played for a host of renowned German and English clubs. He has made two substitute appearances in the Bundesliga for Bayern Munich, before moving to Greuther Furth and Rapid Wien respectively.
Maierhofer scored 31 league goals Rapid Wien, before signing for Wolverhampton Wanderers, making nine Premier League appearances.
He has also played for Red Bull Salzburg, FC Koln, Millwall and As Trencin in Slovakia. Currently 38, he is playing for Wurzburger Kickers who play in 2.Bundesliga, the second tier of German Football. He has made 405 appearances in his career so far, scoring 130 goals in the process.

4. Mikkel Mena Qvist – 6.66 feet
Mikkel Mena Qvist started his career playing for IF Lyseng. He moved there from ASA Fodblod, where he spent the majority of his youth career. The midfielder spent nearly five years at Lyseng before moving to AC Horsens who play in the Danish Superliga.
One of the tallest footballers active, he is currently playing on loan at Knattspyrnufelag Akureyar, an Icelandic club that plays in the Urvalsdeild. This is his second loan stint at Horsens, having previously made 11 appearances for them in 2020. Mikkel also plays as a left-back.
3. Pantilimon - 6.67 feet
One of the most well-known players on this list, Pantilimon has spent majority of his career in England. The Romanian started his career with Politechnica Timisoara, making 115 appearances in six years. He secured a move to Manchester City playing as cover for their starting keeper Joe Hart.
After 2014, when he won the league with City, Sunderland signed him. Pantilimon got first-choice minutes over Mannone and quickly became a regular starter for the side.

He moved to Watford in 2016, and had quick loan spells at Deportivo La Coruna and Nottingham Forest, with the latter roping him on a permanent contract. He played for a brief period in Cyprus for Omonia before joining Turkish side Denizlispor. Pantilimon has made 280 appearances in his club career so far and also represented Romania on 27 occasions.
2. Lacina Traore – 6.67 feet
The Ivory Coast striker has been a journeyman since making his debut for Stade d’Abidjan in 2007. He moved to Romanian club CFR Cluj in 2008, where he scored 14 goals in 44 appearances. He then moved to Russia and played for Kuban Krasnodar and Anzhi Makhachkala, scoring 31 goals over three years.
Monaco roped Traore in for a fee of $14m in 2014. He had brief loan spells in Everton, CSKA Moscow, Sporting Gijon and Amiens, before moving to Hungary with Ujpest FC.
He returned to Cluj before signing for Turkish club Bandrimaspor in 2020. Traore has made 13 appearances for the national team, scoring four goals. He was also a part of Ivory Coast's Africa Cup of Nations winning side of 2015. Traore has made 260 appearances during his 14-year career and has netted 82 goals.

1. Simon Bloch Jorgensen – 6.8 feet
The Danish keeper began his career at Boldklubben in 1893, a Danish second division side after spending his youth career at Frem and FC Copenhagen. He then moved to Boldklubben 1908 and from there, to Frem before taking his talents to Accrington Stanley.
Jorgensen is currently donning the jersey as a goalkeeper for Waltham Abbey in England, a team that plays in the Southern League One Division Central.
He is not only the tallest active football player but also the tallest-ever player to take the field in a professional capacity.
