Some of these stars are wanted by top clubs in Europe.

The Bundesliga has no shortage of exceptional players. However, the old have to move out to make room for the young. The onset of January 2021 meant that there are several players who have entered the last six months of their contracts with their respective clubs.

As a result, these players are free to negotiate with other clubs and can secure their next destination on a pre-agreement. The deal is a win-win situation for both parties, as the recruiting club gets the services without having to pay any transfer fees.

Here are five players from the German top flight who are most likely to move away on pre-agreement contracts, since their current deals are coming to an end.

5. Robin Quaison

Premier League outfit Burnley have enquired about Quaison

FSV Mainz signed Robin Quaison from Palermo in 2017. The striker has since played over 118 matches for the German club and scored 30 goals as of yet. However, the Swedish international is now in the last period of the contract and talks of a renewal have stalled.

Burnley FC have enquired about the player but there is a disagreement with the transfer fees. As such, Mainz risk losing the player to another outfit on a free transfer.

4. Rani Khedira

Khedira will be a free agent in the summer

Rani Khedira, Sami Khedira’s younger brother, is nearing the end of his contract at FC Augsburg. The defensive-midfielder joined the club back in 2017 from RB Leipzig. However, it seems that a contract renewal is not in the process. The 26-year-old will be a free agent at the end of the season.

It has been reported that he could secure a move within the Bundesliga to several interested parties on a pre-agreement contract. His current market value is in the region of €8.00m.

3. Javi Martinez

According to reports, Martinez had asked the club to be offloaded

Javi Martinez of FC Bayern Munich is also free to negotiate with any club of his choice, since he is in the last six months of his contract. It is widely believed that the player himself had requested to be offloaded. Karl Heinz-Rummenigge confirmed that the Spanish international actively sought a transfer at the beginning of August.

The player was earlier thought to be moving to his former club Athletic Club in January 2021. However, the chances of the move materializing right now are slim and it would be sensible for the La Liga outfit to secure Javi Martinez on a free transfer using the pre-agreement method.

2. Jerome Boateng

Boateng is sought by several top clubs in Europe

Jerome Boateng is in the final six months of his contract with FC Bayern Munich as well. The Bundesliga outfit remains undecided over a contract renewal and no deal has been put on the table to extend the defender’s stay. Boateng is sought by many elite clubs around Europe, especially Arsenal, who have identified him as a replacement to Shkodran Mustafi, who has been linked with a move away.

Jerome Boateng’s market value at the moment is in the region of €12.50m, but a pre-agreement with any top club is a real possibility. The 32-year-old apparently does not have a future at his current club and needs to find a new employer somewhere else.

1. David Alaba

Real Madrid are frontrunners to land Alaba

David Alaba has been the part of ongoing transfer discussions for a while. The Austrian is all but likely to leave Bayern Munich for a new destination. He will most likely sign a pre-agreement soon, given he still performs an important role for Hansi Flick’s team.

Real Madrid have been reported as favorites to land the versatile defender, beating the likes of FC Barcelona, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain in the process. He will be the ideal replacement for Sergio Ramos, who has also been linked with a move away from Los Blancos.
