Top five clubs to have scored the most UEFA Champions League goals

Real Madrid recently became the first club to score 1000 goals in the tournament.
The UEFA Champions League is the pinnacle of European football. The competition houses only the best teams from European leagues who manage to win their domestic competition or finish high in the standings. Therefore, the ultimate talent and only the best performing teams take part in the competition. Historically, a few elite clubs have dominated the tournament each year and continue to do so.
These clubs have won the competition multiple times and also scored a lot of goals. Recently, Real Madrid became the first club to break the 1000 goal mark. However, they are trailed by some of the most iconic clubs from Europe in terms of scoring the most goals.
Here is a look at the top five clubs to have scored the most UEFA Champions League goals.
5. Juventus - 468 goals
Juventus are fifth in terms of scoring the most number of goals in the history of the UEFA Champions League. They are one of the most successful teams from Italy in the competition, having won the trophy twice. They are behind AC Milan (seven) and Inter Milan (three) in this regard. However, they are ahead both of them in terms of scoring most goals.
The Old Lady has scored 468 goals in the competition as of yet. Their first win was back in 1984/85, when the competition was called the European Champion Clubs’ Cup. The second triumph came in 1995/96, when the competition was rebranded as we know it today. It has been a long time, a gap of 25 years, since Juventus last won the UEFA Champions League.
4. Manchester United - 529 goals
English giants Manchester United are next up on the list. They have scored 529 goals so far in the UEFA Champions League. The Red Devils have also won the competition on three occasions. They won it in 1967/68, 1998/99 and 2007/08. This makes them the second most successful English team in history, second to Liverpool which has won it six times.
Interestingly, they have scored more goals than Liverpool despite winning the competition lesser number of times. The Red Devils have also won 159 matches overall, which is also the fourth-highest tally.
3. FC Barcelona - 655 goals
La Liga behemoths FC Barcelona are third in terms of scoring the most goals in the UEFA Champions League. They have managed to score 655 goals and are the second Spanish club to be in the top three. FC Barcelona have won the competition a total of five times, in 1991/92, 2005/06, 2008/09, 2010/11 and 2014/15.
The Blaugrana have been one of the most dominant teams in the last two decades and Lionel Messi has a huge part in their dominance. Furthermore, FC Barcelona have won 195 games in the competition, only five away from breaching the 200-mark.
2. Bayern Munich - 768 goals
Germany’s most decorated club Bayern Munich is second on the list of scoring most goals as a club. They have scored 768 goals and recently turned a lot of heads by thumping FC Barcelona by 8-2 in their own backyard on 15 August 2020. The Bavarians are relentless and love to score against big teams or small, everyone gets the same treatment.
Bayern Munich are also the third most successful club in the UCL, winning it six times overall. They have won it in 1973/74, 1974/75, 1975/76, 2000/01, 2012/13 and 2019/20. The Bavarians have also won 218 matches, the second-most in the competition’s history.
1. Real Madrid - 1001 goals
Real Madrid is hailed as the best club in the history of the UEFA Champions League for multiple reasons. They are the leading club in terms of scoring most goals at 1001 strikes and the only club ever to score more than a 1000 goals, 233 goals more than the second-placed team. They recently won three UCL titles back-to-back to take their overall tally to 13 wins, the highest in the competition's history.
Los Blancos has won the UCL in 1955/56, 1956/57, 1957/58, 1958/59, 1959/60, 1965/66, 1997/98, 1999/00, 2001/02, 2013/14, 2015/16, 2016/17 and 2017/18. Expectedly, they have also won the most matches (271) in the competition.
