Top five highest paid managers in European football
The following tacticians receive huge amount of money for their exalted services.
Modern football has seen a rise in the amount of money a club has to pay for a top manager. The value of having one of the best managers in football costs a lot of money, which is much deserved in all fairness. The highest paid managers are often part of elite clubs - who employ these tacticians to keep winning silverware every season.
The following five coaches are exceptional at what they do and bring a lot of experience on the table. Hence, the clubs pay them handsomely for their services. Here are the top five highest paid managers in Europe, as per L’Equipe.
5. Zinedine Zidane (Real Madrid) - €16.8m
Zinedine Zidane’s stature at Real Madrid is legendary - which is among other reasons he is one of the highest paid managers in Europe. Zidane has delivered an incredible amount of success at the club, both as a player and as a manager. It was under his leadership that Real Madrid won three consecutive UEFA Champions League trophies in the previous decade.
He is paid €16.8m every year as the manager of the La Liga outfit. He came back for a second stint with the club in 2019 and has the task to guide the team through a transition phase.
4. José Mourinho (Tottenham Hotspur) - €17m
Jose Mourinho has tasted success at most of the clubs he has been at. The Portuguese is hailed as one of the best coaches in the world and has accolades to back the claim. The former Manchester United, Real Madrid, Inter MIlan and FC Porto boss is currently at the helm of Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.
The London-based club pay him €17m for the services. Elevating Spurs into a winning team and delivering silverware is perhaps the toughest job Mourinho has ever undertaken.
3. Jürgen Klopp (Liverpool) - €17m
Liverpool’s recent success could not have been possible without Jurgen Klopp. The German has turned the fate of the club upside since his appointment in 2015.
Jurgen has helped the Reds win a UEFA Champions League trophy in 2018/19 and a Premier League trophy in 2019/20 season respectively. One of the highest paid managers in Europe, he is remunerated €17m per year and is on contract until 2024.
2. Pep Guardiola (Manchester City) - €22.6m
Pep Guardiola is clearly one of the most successful managers today in terms of success. The Spaniard has used resources well to make Manchester City one of the most fearful teams in Europe. His spells with Barcelona and Bayern Munich have also been hugely successful.
As a result, the Cityzens, who otherwise don’t have a lack of capital, pay Guardiola around €22.6m. This puts him at the second place among highest earning managers in Europe.
1. Diego Simeone (Atletico Madrid) - €43.2m
Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is the highest paid manager in Europe. The La Liga outfit pay him €43.2m, almost twice of what Guardiola earns at Manchester City. The zealous figure of Simeon has solidified the club over the years as they attempt to break the hegemony of Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
The Argentine will complete ten years as the manager in 2022, when his current contract is slated to end. He has delivered two UEFA Europa League trophies and one La Liga title among other silverware for the outfit.
