The rivalry between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund is one of the most high profile games in Europe.

Arguably the biggest fixtures in German football, Der Klassiker is the derby between Bundesliga heavyweights Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. The modern day rivalry peaked in the early 90s, when Dortmund revived themselves and became the driving force in German football.

Since the last century, both the teams have often brought star players, who have often went onto scoring many goals in the sought after game, scripting history for either of the clubs. Here are the five highest scorers in the history of Der Klassiker.

5. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge - 10 goals

Bayern Munich legend and their current chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has scored 10 goals in the Der Klassiker over the years during his decade long association with Bayern Munich between 1974-84. He had scored 10 goals against Borussia Dortmund, beginning with a brace on his Der Klassiker debut in 1976.

Although during that period the rivalry between these two clubs was not at its peak, his performance in the derby made him a fan-favorite with the Bayern faithful. The former West Germany international made over 300 appearances for the club, scoring 162 times before joining Inter at the end of the 1983-84 season.

4. Thomas Müller - 11 goals

A Ramdeuter, Thomas Muller has represented Bavarians in 29 occasions and scored 11 times in the iconic Der Klassiker. The 31-year-old is currently in his 12th season with the club, where he has won numerous silverware including two trebles in 2013 and 2020. In 2014, he was also part of the Germany side who won the FIFA World Cup in Brazil and won the Silver Boot by scoring five goals.

The meeting at Westfalenstadion in November 2020 will mark his 30th Der Klassiker involvement, where he would be looking at to increase his goals' tally against Borussia Dortmund.
