Top five I-League foreigners who can move up to the ISL

These players have all the qualities to excel in the premier league competition of India.
The I-League has no shortage of exceptional domestic and foreign talent. Despite its status as the second-tier league in India, it attracts a lot of outstanding players from overseas. There are plenty of strong clubs in the competition that has the capital and stature to bring in foreigners from all over the globe. These players perform key roles for their respective teams. Similar to the Indian Super League (ISL), any club which aims to become champions in the I-League must employ good foreigners because of their impact.
In the ongoing 2021-22 campaign, several foreigners are leading the performance charts in the I-League. And so, the clubs in the premier league competition of India should look at them for the forthcoming season.
Signing the following foreigners will give ISL clubs an edge over the other competing teams as they bring experience and many other qualities. On that note, here is a look at the five I-League foreigners that can move up to the ISL:
5. Luka Majcen (Gokulam Kerala)
Luka Majcen is in scintillating form for Gokulam Kerala FC in the ongoing season. The striker is leading the goalscoring charts after 13 overall league games with 13 goals. The Slovenian is the key contributor because of his performances to the Malabarians leading the points table.
As a target man, the 32-year-old checks a lot of boxes. He is great at hold-up play because of his technical quality and is a fabulous finisher as well. Provided good service, Majcen can hurt any opposition as a striker. The ISL clubs that are looking for an efficient striker should look at the GKFC forward.
4. Kurtis Guthrie (Roundglass Punjab)
The I-League is Kurtis Guthrie’s introduction to Indian football and the Englishman has taken to the league like a duck to water. He seems very comfortable with the new surroundings and is ripping the competition apart. As of this moment, Guthrie has 10 goals and two assists for RoundGlass Punjab FC. The outfit is enjoying a good run in the league because of their new signing.
The former Port Vale striker has a myriad of qualities in his gameplay that make him an ideal target for ISL clubs. Because he is 29-years-old at the moment, it means his physical output will be optimum. The forward identifies spaces behind the defence expertly and can punish the defenders with brilliant finishing.
3. Marcus Joseph (Mohammedan SC)
Marcus Joseph has developed the habit of scoring crucial goals for Mohammedan SC. The Kolkata-based club owes the striker and his goals major credit for remaining amongst the top two places in the points table after 12 matches.
The striker from Trinidad and Tobago has managed 11 goals already and will certainly bank more as the season progresses. When it comes to finishing chances, Joseph has few equals in the I-League. The 30-year-old can and should move up to the ISL to get a taste of top tier Indian football and win more hearts across the country.
2. David Munoz (Sreenidi Deccan)
David Castaneda Munoz is one of the new entrants in Indian football through the I-League. The Columbian plays for league debutants Sreenidhi Deccan FC. He has scored nine goals for the club already, helping them to a fourth place in 12 matches - within contention of qualifying for the Championship Phase.
The 27-year-old has taken a good liking to Indian football. His introduction could not have gone better. There will be several Indian Super League clubs that will monitor the striker. He is quick, lethal with his movement and a composed finisher of the ball.
1. Nikola Stojanovic (Mohammedan SC)
Nikola Stojanovic should be high on the transfer targets for every Indian Super League club. The skipper of Mohammedan SC is in exceptional form, delivering seven (the most in the league) assists as of yet. He is a complete midfielder who can provide cover to the defence and contribute to the attack.
The 27-year-old has leadership qualities and several ISL clubs can benefit from his experience in Indian football. The Serbian has numerous qualities that make him ideal for a step up to the ISL. In a situation where he signs for a club in the top tier, Stojanovic will definitely flourish.
