Having left-footed players is a gift to any side.

Even though professional footballers are expected to be good with the ball on either foot, almost all footballers have a favored foot. Left-footed footballers have a certain guile to their style of play. They naturally seem to be more elegant than right-footed players. Even though the number of right-footed players easily outnumber the left-footed ones, some of the best footballers to play the game have been left-footed.

Here is a list of the best left-footed footballers in 2022.

5. David Alaba

One of the most versatile players in world football, Alba can play as a central midfielder, wide midfielder, left back and centre-back. The Real Madrid player is also one of the most decorated in the world, winning 27 titles with Bayern Munich before joining Real Madrid in 2021. The Austrian went on to win the La Liga and the Champions League in his debut season in which he played an instrumental role. Also, playing primarily as a centre-back, the 30-year old started 30 league matches for Real Madrid on their way to win the 2021-22 La Liga title.

Lionel Messi is arguably the best footballer to have ever played the game. It is no doubt that he has been the best left-footed footballer over the last two decades. However, the only reason the Argentine is second on the list is because he didn’t have the best of seasons in 2021-22. After leaving Barcelona, Messi joined PSG in the summer of 2021. His first season with PSG was a little disappointing. As the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner only managed six goals in 26 league appearances. However, Messi seems to be back to his best in this season as he already has four goals and seven assists to his name in eight league appearances.

1. Mohammed Salah
