The Bundesliga outfit needs to offload players in order to stabilize their finances.

Borussia Dortmund has been termed as a club with a good selling strategy. They have sold some fantastic players like Christian Pulisic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Ousmane Dembele - which have been very profitable deals for the outfit.

In the upcoming transfer window, Borussia Dortmund will need to follow tradition and bring in money by selling players in order to balance the club’s finances. Their CEO, Hans-Joachim Watzke recently admitted that the team might need to sell a high-profile player(s) if they continue to play without fans next season.

Amidst the deteriorating financial situation and the risk of losing out on UEFA Champions League qualification, BVB should look to sell in order to stabilize the ship.

5. Immanuel Pherai

Immanuel Pherai is an attacking-midfielder who is currently out on loan, playing for PEC Zwolle in the Dutch Eredivisie. The 19-year-old has found it tough to break into the team with several talented players contesting for the same role.

The Dutch international must outperform players like Giovanni Reyna and Julian Brandt to stake a claim for a place in the squad, however being out on loan will not help his cause. A goal and two assists in 20 appearances on his loan spell would tempt the club to cash in on the player.

4. Julian Brandt

Julian Brandt’s move to Borussia Dortmund from Bayer Leverkusen was a highly anticipated move. The German had a brilliant spell with Leverkusen and was supposed to help the club challenge Bayern Munich’s dominance in the league.

However, since making his move, Brandt has underperformed, as he has featured 77 times in all competitions and contributed only 10 goals and 14 assists. The player’s market value has also gone down from €50m to €30m and it might be best for both the player and the club to part ways.

3. Leonardo Balerdi

Another young prospect who has not been able to breakthrough into the squad and has to contend with a loan spell is Leonardo Balerdi. The center-back is playing for Olympique Marseille in the Ligue 1, where he has made only 16 appearances.

The 22-year-old seems additional to requirements at the club. The Argentine is way down in the pecking order in the center-back position, where players like Manuel Akanji and Dan-Axel Zagadou are favored alongside Mats Hummels.

2. Dan-Axel Zagadou

Dan-Axel Zagadou has always been a potentially great center-back. The 21-year-old was signed from Paris Saint-Germain as a teenager and was proclaimed to be one of Europe’s upcoming defenders. However, Zagadou has a troublesome period of late, having to deal with injuries and time on the bench.

Since Emre Can has been signed, he has often filled in as a makeshift center-back, chosen over Zagadou who has only played 13 times this term. The Frenchman needs to move away to rekindle his career and the club should look to cash in on his €22m market value, before it dives further.

1. Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland has been spectacular since joining BVB from RB Salzburg, scoring 47 goals in 48 overall appearances. The club will have to make the hard decision to either let go of Jadon Sancho or Haaland, considering their need to fix their financial situation.

The Norwegian is chased by all of Europe's elite football clubs, who are vying for his signature. The forward’s market value stands at €110m and selling him could solve all of their financial issues. It would also make sense to sell the player now prior to his release clause coming into effect in the 2021-22 season, which is rumored to be around approximately €60m.
