The Serie A is one of the most popular football competitions. The Italian league is known for its defensive solidity. This makes scoring goals harder and netting a hat-trick even more difficult. Scoring a treble in Italian football is no mean feat. Only the best strikers have managed this so far.
Serie A is predominantly labeled as a defensive league. But, Italy’s first tier has also boasted some of the greatest attacking talents over the years. Cristiano Ronaldo, Filippo Inzaghi, Hernan Crespo, Roberto Baggio have all played in the Italian top division. They have made their mark in the competition with a plethora of goals.

5. Antonio Di Natale (5)
The forward was one of the best Italian players of his generation. Antonio Di Natale spent most of his playing career at Udinese. He is the record appearance-maker and goalscorer for the club in Serie A. He is also the sixth-highest scorer in the league's history.
Di Natale played for Empoli and Udinese in Italy’s top division. In his two-decade long career, he netted five hat-tricks in Serie A. The Naples-born player was the league’s top scorer in 2010 and 2011. He was also selected in Serie A’s Team of the Year on three occasions.
4. Dries Mertens (6)
The Belgian is one of the best players in Napoli’s history. He earned a move to the Italian club after a successful spell with PSV Eindhoven. Following this, he has been a constant presence for the Naples outfit.
He has played for the Naples club since 2013. The winger is the leading scorer in the club’s history, netting 144 times. Dries Mertens has scored six hat-tricks in Serie A for Napoli. In 2016, the Belgian was the first player in 42 years in the league to score consecutive trebles.
3. Ciro Immobile (6)
The Lazio man has become one of the most renowned strikers in modern football. Born in Naples, Immobile began his career with Juventus. He then played for Genoa and Torino in Italy, before joining Lazio after spells in Germany and Spain. Immobile has netted six hat-tricks in the Italian top-flight.
Ciro Immobile won the Serie A top-scorer once while at Torino. But, the striker has played his best football after joining Lazio in 2016. He has since won the Paolo Rossi Award twice.
2. Mauro Icardi (6)
The Argentine came through Barcelona’s famous La Masia youth academy. He began his senior carer with Italian side Sampdoria. The Rosario native impressed and earned himself a move to Italian giants Inter Milan. He scored 111 goals in 188 league games for the Nerazzurri. Icardi was also instrumental in the club’s return to the Champions League in the 2015-16 season.
Mauro Icardi has netted six hat-tricks in Serie A. He scored five trebles for Inter Milan and one for Sampdoria. The Argentine won the league’s top scorer two times. He is also the eight-highest goalscorer in the Nerazzurri’s history.
1. Edinson Cavani (7)
The Uruguayan is considered one of the best strikers of his generation. Edinson Cavani has scored the most hat-tricks in Serie A. He has netted seven trebles in the league. All of them came in the colours of Napoli.
Cavani’s European journey began with Palermo. He spent four seasons with them before joining Napoli. The Uruguayan is the sixth-highest goalscorer in the club’s history. He netted 104 goals in 138 appearances for the Naples club.
He won the Coppa Italia with Napoli in 2011-12. This was his only title success in Italy. The striker then joined PSG, where he enjoyed his most successful spell.
