The football transfer window is now well and truly underway. The high stakes into player acquisition in football sometimes sees individuals sold and purchased for inordinate amounts of money.

That being said, over the years there have been a number of highly successful transfers that did not cost nearly as much as one might have expected. These budget transfers, scattered throughout football history have played an important role in making transfers as exciting as they have come to be.

In the 2008-09 season, Van Der Sar set the record for the longest time played without conceding a goal, with 1311 minutes.

The former Juventus and Ajax man lifted the Champions League in 2008, to add to his four Premier League titles, making him one of the best goalkeepers in the history of the club.

4. Toni Kroos - £22.5m

The German midfielder was signed by Real Madrid in the summer of 2013 for meagre £22.5m, after his proposed move to Manchester United in the Premier League failed to come through. Lewandowski was instrumental to Dortmund’s Bundesliga titles in 2011 and 2012 as well as the club’s run to the Champion’s league final in 2013.

Lewandowski moved to Bayern Munich on a free transfer where he continues his goalscoring exploits, earning himself a spot on our list.
